Bathroom Remodeling Timeline: What to Expect for Your Chandler Project

A bathroom remodel is a major home improvement project. Homeowners often ask: How long will the construction take, and how long will I be without my bathroom? In the East Valley, a standard bathroom renovation takes between 2 and 4 weeks of active construction, while custom master suites can take 4 to 6 weeks.

In this guide, we share our detailed week-by-week timeline of demolition, rough-in plumbing, waterproofing, tile setting, and inspections.

Detailed Week-by-Week Construction Timeline

Phase 1: Planning and Materials (Completed Prior to Demolition)

  • Timeline: 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Activities: Designing the layout, pulling permits through the City of Chandler, and ordering fixtures, tile, and vanities.
  • Rule of Thumb: We never start demolition until all primary materials (especially custom tile and special valves) have arrived at our warehouse. This prevents delays during construction.
  • Review our design process on the bathroom remodeling timeline page.

Week 1: Demolition and Rough-In Plumbing & Electrical

  • Day 1-2: Demolition: Tearing out the old vanity, drywall, flooring, and tub down to the original wood framing.
  • Day 3-5: Rough-In Plumbing: Installing mixing valves, expanding tub drain lines to 2 inches, and running new lines.
  • Day 5: Electrical Rough-In: Wiring new outlets, exhaust fans, and vanity lights.

Week 2: Waterproofing, Inspections, and Drywall

  • Day 6-7: Inspections: City of Chandler inspectors review the rough-in plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Day 8-9: Waterproofing: Installing the Schluter-KERDI waterproofing membrane on shower walls and pans to create a vapor-tight seal. Read more in why we use Schluter-KERDI waterproofing.
  • Day 10: Drywall & Cement Board: Hanging mold-resistant drywall on ceiling and non-shower walls.

Week 3: Custom Tile Setting and Grouting

  • Day 11-13: Tile Setting: Laying porcelain or ceramic tile on the shower walls, accents, and floor.
  • Day 14: Grouting: Applying non-porous epoxy grout to resist hard water mineral scale.
  • Day 15: Flooring: Installing the main bathroom floor tile. Check our bathroom tile installation guide for details.

Week 4: Cabinetry, Countertops, Fixtures, and Painting

  • Day 16-17: Cabinetry & Tops: Mounting the wood vanity and setting the quartz countertop.
  • Day 18: Trim Plumbing: Installing the toilet, sink faucets, and shower trim kit.
  • Day 19: Electrical Trim: Mounting light fixtures and switches.
  • Day 20: Final Inspections & Walkthrough: The city inspector conducts the final inspection, followed by our walkthrough with you to verify every detail.

Tips to Prevent Project Delays

  • Finalize Your Selections Early: Changing your mind about tile or fixture finishes mid-project will cause delays and require change orders.
  • Obtain HOA Approvals in Advance: If your HOA requires review for exterior dumpsters or parking, submit the paperwork at least 3 weeks before construction begins.
  • Work with a Licensed Contractor: Unlicensed handymen often fail city inspections, which can shut down a job site for weeks.
  • ARZ Home Remodeling is licensed under ROC #ROC338304 and carries full liability insurance.
